November Pont. 8 [24 October 1454], but not embodied in a bull because of his death, for the prior and monks of the monastery to eat meat, outside the refectory, on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays between Septuagesima Sunday and
Quinquagesima Sunday and on the second fast-day (
feria) of Christmas when a Sunday, since they had long been accustomed to eat fritters and puddings (
frixa et farciaturas) from Septuagesima
Sunday to Quinquagesima Sunday, often made from meat and often harmful, and fish on the second fast-day of Christmas when a Sunday, to their inconvenience, because, with about fifty monks in the monastery and little space for exercise, inappropriate
diet caused infirmities and withdrawal from divine service, and, with many people invited on Christmas Eve and eating meat when the said second fast-day fell on a Sunday, but the monks fish, the disparity caused much expense.

Letter asking the pope to deign that the prior and chapter of Durham be allowed to eat meat of bipeds or quadrupeds outside the refectory between Septuagesima Sunday and Quinquagesima Sunday and on Christmas Eve when a Sunday, since between
Septuagesima Sunday and Quinquagesima Sunday they are allowed to eat outside the refectory only fritters or fried food (

particularly because they cannot have a garden or healthy air for recreation, and since some wish at that season to eat fish and some fried or baked meat, causing trouble in the monastery, scandals and, for the servants, much work.
