About this series

UC/MS/51-228 is an artificially created collection comprising individual manuscripts and collections too small or ephemeral to be included in the Ushaw College Papers (UC/P) or Ushaw College Administration (UC/A) series.

Contents

The collection is divided into two series:
UC/MS/1-50: Medieval manuscripts, including a fragment of an eighth-century office lectionary; books of hours; missals; early copies of the medieval texts of English historians, Henry of Huntingdon and Geoffrey of Monmouth; and other liturgical works
UC/MS/51-230: The collection is extremely wide-ranging in subject matter and includes literary, theological, political, historical, legal, and educational material, maps, plans, and drawings, and sketches of people and places. There is also a large amount of correspondence, and printed material on various aspects of Catholic history and Ushaw College. There are also a series of manuscripts, mostly ephemeral, originally located in the Big Library but brought together by Dr Alastair MacGregor as a continuation of the Medieval Manuscripts sequence although a large number of manuscripts are from a later date and some are missing or transferred elsewhere. The reference number of the original manuscript number has been retained and the Big Library shelfmarks are noted where applicable
