The papers concern property at Consett, Durham City, Ebchester held of Sherburn Hospital, Knitsley, Medomsley, Moorsley, Sunderland Co. A few items are in Latin. The papers span 1572-c.1950 but most are early-mid nineteenth century.

Accession details

First six boxes received at the Prior's Kitchen from the office of Mawson, Freeman & Curry (the Exchequer Building, 50 North Bailey, Durham City) (along with Land Tax Records not related to them), before October 1957.
From a skip outside the above premises when University of Durham Dept. of Law took over the building, and from the incineration area at the University Surveyor's Department on 10 and 15 September 1971 - volumes and papers, rescued by J.L Drury, M.S. McCollum and a thoughtful skip-collecter.
From the University Dept. of Law on 17 & 29 September 1971, being plans, Mawsons's leavings.

Arrangement

The material is listed by deposit, then document type, and then in chronological order. Two boxes of material (9 and 10) remain unlisted. The O.S. maps have been sorted by scale and series.
