Reminiscences of Kordofan in 1906, covering MacMichael's early experiences in the area, including a massacre at Talodi and the resulting punitive patrol under the Governor, Major J.R. O'Connell, and a complicated court case involving the chief holyman of El Obeid, Said al-Makki, a suspected Mahdist sympathiser, who claimed that some of the prisoners taken by O'Connell were slaves belonging to him. The case required Sir Reginald Wingate, R. von Slatin and Major Ravenscroft of the Anti-Slavery Department to adjudicate.
