Memorandum, written by Thomson while Governor Funj, to Qaim T. E. Hearn, S.D.F., describing a raid on Kassala, referred to as the “Sanbu raid”, which took place on 28 December 1918, when Egyptian troops in the fort
at Kassala were attacked by a force of Hadanduwah Bija, largely of slave origin, led by Muhammad Sanbu, a West African living in Kassala. The attack was repulsed by the Eastern Arab Corps and the province police and Muhammad Sanbu was pursued and
