Memoirs of Brownell entitled “Last Journal of Clarence Melville Brownell”, Jan 2 - May 13 1862. Includes details of Brownell's trek through Egypt and the Sudan (SAD.721/1/4-44) describing country, climate, wildlife and tribes; account of Brownell's trek through Sudan via the Nubian Desert, describing country, climate and settlements (SAD.721/1/44-61). On entering Khartoum, Brownell stayed with the British Consul, J. Petherick, with whom he prepared an expedition to the Upper White Nile (SAD.721/1/57). Account of the area surrounding Khartoum, including Omdurman (SAD.721/1/55-56) and a hospital (SAD.721/1/61); Brownell's account of trek by boat up the Upper White Nile, with detailed reference to settlements, tribes, vegetation, climate, fauna and flora (SAD.721/1/62- 108).
