Single leaf from a large codex of Bede's Homilies (or Paul the Deacon's Homilary quoting Bede) written in the first half of the 12th century in Italy (Tuscany: Florence or vicinity). Subsequently this leaf was removed, folded and re-used as a pastedown and free endleaf for binding an unidentified volume of about 38 cm in height.

Written in pre-Gothic minuscule
Large initial H in yellow with red decorative infill, acanthus leaf foliage and large leaves in the compartments on a blue, red and green backgorund. Rubric titles.
The leaf is now guarded into a separate cloth binding.
Written in Italy, Tuscany (probably Florence) , earlier 12th century.
Owned by Aldo Olschki (1893-1963), whence sold to Bernard Rosenthal in 1959 (by whom numbered as I/76). In Quaritch catalogue 1088 Bookhands of the Middle Ages III (1988), lot 6.
