Two separated pieces from the upper part of a single leaf; on the recto of the second piece a few letters of the text survive down the left hand edge and these fit the words missing from the right hand line endings of the first piece.

Layout

No pricking visible. Written space calculable as about 140 mm wide. Ruled in sharp gray. 10 lines of the marginal gloss occupy 53 mm; the text is written in a column of varying width, on alternate lines of the marginal gloss, or, where the interlinear gloss is double-banked, on every third line. Informal side-notes.

Blue and red alternating cadels; blue initial 3 lines high surrounded with red ink scrollwork.

Written in northern France ?, early 12th century.

Provenance

Former pastedowns, with stains from turn-ins of brown covering, from Shelfmark of source: Routh XXII.G.31 - Themistiou philosophou, tou kai Euphradous epiklēthentos logoi tessareskaideka (Geneva: excudebat Henricus Stephanus, 1562), late 16th/early 17th century binding, calf, blind fillets, central blind stamp on front and back boards, with the ownership inscription of “Tho. Bingus” Portfolio I/18 (see Catalogue of fragments, manuscript and printed, amongst Durham University Library Archives and Special Collections).
