Condition of manuscriptSome inking gone on both rectos through being pasted down.
Layout

No pricking visible. Ruled lightly in sharp dark grey, both for text and, independently (?) but barely visible, for marginal gloss. Written space, of text 219-222 x 121 mm on each page; of marginal gloss, up to 278 mm high. 38 lines of text, the first above the top ruled line; up to 105 lines of marginal gloss.

Script

Written in proto-gothic textura, gloss written in Caroline minuscule

Decoration

A few text capitals filled with red. Marginal chapter-numbers in red.

Written in France or England, mid 12th century.

Provenance

Former pastedowns in Shelfmark of source: SB+ 0049 (Routh XXII.C.10) - first volume of Plutarch, Opuscula (Venice: in aedibus Aldi & Andreae Asulani soceri, 1509) (removed August 1931). Portfolio I/22a-b (see Catalogue of fragments, manuscript and printed, amongst Durham University Library Archives and Special Collections).
