Two consecutive leaves from a 14/15th century Book of Hours, written in England or the Low Countries, in the style of Horae made for the English market, reused as spine liners in 16th century.

No pricking visible. Ruled in fine dark grey. Written space 108 x 64 mm. 20 lines.
Written in textura, in two sizes.
Initials: to each petition and each collect except the first, 1-line, plain red or blue, alternating; to first collect, 2-line, plain blue.
Written in England or the Low Countries, late 14th / early 15th century.
Reused as spine-liners, with pairs of vertical folds and slits and with heavy brown stains from covering, until removed from Shelfmark of source: Routh 14.L.55, now SB 0361 - Epistolae quaedam piissimae & eruditissimae Iohannis Hus, quae solae satis declarant Papistarum pietates esse satanae furias (Wittenberg: ex officina Ioannis Lufft, 1537), mid 16th century dark brown calf English binding, blind panel stamps on front and back boards (Oldham HM. 21 and HM. 22 respectively), tie holes. Binding still contains discarded leaves with English text, with inscriptions on printed fragments of Roger Smithe and Tobias Smithe (16th century) and on the book of William Danse servant to Sir Everard Digby (16th century).
