The Albina Brothers were born in Palestine at the turn of the 20th century. Orphaned in WWI, they ended up at the American Colony Photo Department in Jerusalem where they were apprenticed under some of the best photographers of the time, Lewis
Larsson, Eric Matson, and others, and learned not only how to take photographs but also how to develop negatives, both glass and celluloid, make lantern slides, hand tint, prepare developing chemicals and silver gelatin paper amongst other things.
Eventually, they opened their own studio. One brother seemed to concentrate on holy sites, while the other delved more into documenting events in the mode of the American Colony photographers.
