The Round Table Conference was convened in 1965 by the Prime Minister Sirr al-Khatim al-Khalifa to address the problem of the South. The conference was originally scheduled to take place in Juba but unrest there led to the migration of the
conference to Khartoum where it was held between 16 and 29 March. Discussions between the 24 Southern representatives and 18 Northern party representatives reached a deadlock and the conference concluded with the establishment of the Twelve Man
Committee consisting of the participating political parties.
