examples were adapted as mountain guns although there is not enough detail to say if this is one of them. An improved version, the K17/L45, was produced in 1917 at which point the K14 seems to have been redesignated K14/L35 to record its shorter

James Haworth photosReference: MIA 8Dates of creation: [c.1900]32 BW photographs, mostly sepia on rather fragile German paper
The photos are mainly of resorts in Switzerland, and were probably bought commercially to judge by the sequence numbers and firms' names at the foot of some. Howarth, in his
Who's Who entry, lists as a recreation, “walking”, and the date of the pictures may be c.1900.
Rev. James Haworth (born 17 December 1853, Blackburn; died Easter Monday 6 April 1942, at Gordon Mount, Crossgate Peth, Durham City) graduated from Hatfield College in 1879, with a degree in maths. He returned to Durham in 1885 as vice-principal
of St Hild's College (Church of England training college for women teachers), and was principal of the college from 1888 until 1910. He was vicar of Haswell, Sunderland, 1910-1913 and of South Hetton 1913-1938, when he finally retired aged 85.
Presented by Miss Margot Johnson of Durham, who acquired the collection from Miss Haworth, presumably Canon Haworth's sister, who lived in the Bailey, in 1960.
The prints have been arranged alphabetically by town irrespective of country, and have been placed individually in acid-free-paper covers. Some of the subjects are not identified and these have been placed at the end of the sequence.

H.B. Tristram photo albumReference: MIA 11Dates of creation: late 19th century39 black and white photographs, mounted in an album of 32f, produced by Thomas Robertson, fancy stationer of 7 Shandwick Place, Edinburgh
Photographs of medieval churches and a few other buildings, mostly in England and Scotland, and scenery in Scotland, Devon, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland and Israel. Most (possibly all) are commercial photographs. Many have the photographer's
serial number and initials or name printed at the foot; these are given at the end of the handlist description for the photographs concerned.
Henry Baker Tristram was born at Eglingham, Northumberland, 11 May 1822, and educated at Durham School and Lincoln College, Oxford. It was as incumbent of Castle Eden and Master of Greatham Hospital, Co. Durham, in the 1850s and 1860s that HBT
developed his interest in natural history as well as bringing up a large family (he married Eleanor Bowlby in 1850). From 1874 until his death on 8 March 1906, HBT was a residentiary canon of Durham Cathedral. He suffered from lung trouble, which
required recurrent visits to North Africa and the Holy Land where he engaged in important and meticulous studies of natural history, especially of birds. He published widely on aspects of the Holy Land and his collections of birds and their eggs
have provided significant groups in the Natural History Museum in London and the Public Museum in Liverpool. His travels also extended to Japan and China.
A pencil inscription on the volume's front pastedown states that the photographs were collected by Canon H.B. Tristram and that the volume was purchased at the sale of the household contents of Professor P.J. Heawood (Tristram's son-in-law) by
Mr. Louis Allen, who presented it to the library. Other albums presented by Mr. Allen containing photographs of the Middle East and possibly associated with the Tristram family, but too late in date to have been collected by H.B. Tristram, are
located with the Oriental MSS (MSS OR/Eur.58/1-5).

W.A. Bramwell photo albumReference: MIA 12Dates of creation: [c.1900]94 BW photographs, loose, some mounted, others merely in Secol sleeves
Photographs of churches in Scotland and England and of a few secular buildings, collected and presented by W.A. Bramwell. Most are identified in pencil on the back, and in some cases the photographer is also named. Many of the photographs of
Scottish churches are identified as having been taken by M. (or? Mr) Powles in 1899, and most of the others, similar in size and appearance, are probably also by him. The photographer of many of the Yorkshire churches was A. Bailes of Durham,
although one is attributed to C.C. Hodges of Hexham. Bramwell himself probably took at least some of the remainder.

Dennison photo albumReference: MIA 14Dates of creation: late 19th/early 20th centuryAlbum of 157 black and white and sepia photographic prints; photographs 124-157 were found loose in the album and are now in an envelope kept with it (but not found 13 August 2008)
The subjects include historic buildings, streets and seaside scenes in Co. Durham, Yorkshire and Derbyshire, and family photographs. Mrs Dennison was unable to identify either photographers or the people who appear on the photographs, which seem
generally late 19th and early 20th century snapshots. The only clues derive from inscriptions on the back of nos 134 and 142. No.134, a photograph of a portrait of a woman, carries a pencil note, “Miss Patrick Durham
6”. No.142, of the cornmill on Durham river banks, has inscriptions “G.S. Patrick Kepier Lodge”, and “J. Patrick Junr Solicitor Albion Chambers 1 Silver St Durham”. The elder John
Patrick, son of George Patrick, both solicitors, died 24 January 1885, aged 67. His home was 67 Hallgarth Street, Durham City. The elder John Patrick is buried at St. Oswald's Durham. Mrs. Patrick died 28 October 1904. Her residence was then said to
be Kepier Lodge. In the early years of the 20th century the legal practice was based at 2 Silver Street and, by 1906, at 26 Market Place. A number of photographs of Hallgarth Street and Kepier are included in the album. If/how the Patrick family and
the Dennisons were connected is not known.
Deposited with Durham University Library c.1991 by Mrs. Dennison, widow of Frederick Dennison (1914-1985, mayor of Durham 1968-1969).
